After dispatching Fenerbahce in the UEFA Champions League qualifier two nights ago (who just got expelled from the Europa League and all European competitions next season for their match-fixing issues), Arsenal will watch closely to see who they draw in the 2013/14 group stage. Below are the clubs in each of their respective pots:
Pot 1:
Bayern Munich
Barcelona
Chelsea
Real Madrid
Manchester United
Arsenal
Porto
Benfica
Pot 2:
Atletico Madrid
Shakhtar Donetsk
AC Milan
FC Schalke 04
Marseille
CSKA Moscow
PSG
Juventus
Pot 3:
Zenit St. Petersburg
Manchester City
Ajax
Borussia Dortmund
FC Basel
Olympiacos
Galatasaray
Bayer Leverkusen
Pot 4:
FC Copenhagen
Napoli
Anderlecht
Celtic
Steaua Bucharest
FC Viktoria Plzen
Real Sociedad
FK Austian Wien
As you may know, no club can be drawn into the same group with another club from their own association. There are quite a few landmines occupying the 2nd, 3rd and 4th pots, notably the entire 2nd pot, last season's Champions League runner-ups Borussia Dortmund in pot 3 and Napoli and Real Sociedad in pot 4.
Here's hoping we can avoid a dreaded "group of death."
