Arsenal 2-1 Liverpool: FA Cup instant reaction

Arsenal scored two and held on to get a date with Everton in the quarterfinal.

2-0 Lukas Podolski 47'
2-1 Steven Gerrard (penalty) 59'

Arsenal in part avenged the heavy defeat to Liverpool last weekend by defeating them today, advancing to the quarterfinal of the FA Cup to face Everton. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain scored one and assisted another, and though he couldn't save a Steven Gerrard penalty, Lukasz Fabianski performed well in goal with several key saves to protect and preserve the Arsenal lead.

The Arteta-Flamini partnership which, admittedly, I am not a fan of, performed relatively well today in protecting the defense. The back four were also good, with Carl Jenkinson in particular shining (though that may be partly because I am always afraid he won't do as well as I want him to do). Mesut Ozil played well and Yaya Sanogo, in his first really tangible playing time for Arsenal, also showed signs of being a good player.

All in all, it wasn't a flawless performance, but it was certainly better than the past couple have been, and it was certainly good enough to win. On to the next one.
