Yesterday, we brought you the news that Mesut Özil and Alexis Sanchez were rumored to be tag-teaming their contract extension efforts to squeeze (rightfully) as much money possible from Arsenal, in what will probably be their last major contract in their respective careers.

Today comes word from James Olley of the Evening Standard that the two players (again, rightfully) are wanting to know Arsenal’s summer transfer targets before considering their contract extension offers from the club, knowing they have complete leverage in negotiations.

Olley digs a bit deeper in the duo’s concerns to say that Alexis was particularly upset at the transfer activity in the summer of 2015, when Petr Cech was the lone signing. Arsenal, as we know, dished out £90 million on Granit Xhaka, Shkodran Mustafi, and Lucas Perez last summer, and while spent largely improved the squad due to the lack of key players leaving the club could not prevent falling out of the Champions League for the first time under Wenger’s tutelage.

Following Wenger’s contract extension , it’s been reported by many outlets that he has anywhere between £100 million and £120 million to spend this summer, and the rumors have ranged from Alexander Lacazette, Thomas Lemar, to Andrea Belotti and Jordan Pickford. Whether any of these players would consider moving to Arsenal, eventually move to Arsenal, and if these players are of the quality that match Özil and Alexis’s ambitions and standard remains to be seen.

Until then, if this report is true, expect the quality of the transfer target rumors to be quite smashing.
