Carl Jenkinson appeared on the verge of moving to £7 million move to Crystal Palace this month and reuniting with former West Ham United boss Sam Allardyce in a bid to resurrect his career, but the move to south London has broken down over an apparent desire to increase his wages by moving to a club fighting relegation.
At this point, Jenkinson's only options appear to interest from Watford and West Brom, and Championship side Aston Villa.
A fan favorite due to his lifelong love of Arsenal, Jenkinson has fallen behind not only Hector Bellerin at right back, but Gabriel - a natural center back - after recovering from torn knee ligaments while on loan at West Ham last season. With Bellerin set to be back within a few weeks, Jenkinson must surely be weighing his options carefully, but urgently.
Personally I've always had a soft spot in my heart for the Gooner, and when the day comes where he departs the club for good I'll feel a bit sad about how he couldn't crack the first team on a regular basis. At any rate, here's hoping whatever move Carl Jenkinson completes this month makes him happy and sees his career kick-started once again.
