Matt Law of The Telegraph says that Arsenal, following months of sitting on their hands and not planning out injuries to their current squad ahead of time, have set aside their quest to find a striker and have made signing Valencia's center back Shkodran Mustafi their top transfer priority:
Gabriel’s injury means Wenger is now prioritising signing a new defender ahead of his long-running striker search and a bid in the region of £20 million for Mustafi is expected to be placed inside 48 hours in the hope a deal could be rushed through.
Law also says that Wenger has an interest in Jonny Evans, but West Brom is, incredibly, holding out for more than the rumored £15 million that Arsenal is stupidly prepared to pay for his services.
Arsenal, truth be told, would not be in this predicament if they were willing to get transfers over the line the first time, every time, and just pay what the selling club was asking for. And now, having dithered in the market watching other clubs bring in new signings while at the same time having all of their players predictably get hurt before the season began, they're forced to probably pay more than what it would have taken a month ago to get Mustafi in before the window closes.
Arsenal should just retire from the transfer market if they can't get this deal done in my honest opinion.
