According to the Sun, Borussia Dortmund midfielder/winger/all-around good player Henrikh Mkhitaryan prefers Arsenal over other transfer options. Mkhitaryan (whose name I can actually spell from memory, because I'm extremely good at my job) is not under contract after the coming season, and appears unlikely to sign a new deal with Dortmund.
The Sun claims that Arsenal are after the player along with Chelsea (Tottenham Hotspur are supposedly also "monitoring" him), but Mkhitaryan would rather come here. They throw out some numbers – £20 million fee, and around £85k-a-week on wages – as well.
There are several reasons to coat this with a pile of grains of salt, so let's get to that. If you didn't already pick up on this, it's reporting from the Sun, who are bad. That doesn't mean this won't happen, but the fact that they're reporting it makes it only negligibly more likely that it will. There is of course also the fact that Borussia Dortmund have, in the past, not been afraid to keep a player threatening to run out his contract for a final year. They did exactly that with Robert Lewandowski, and there's been lots of talk that the same will happen with Mkhitaryan.
At the moment, I'd grade this move as unlikely. If someone who's actually remotely reliable reports it that could change, but I'm not getting my hopes up until we can do better than the Sun. Though if someone better did report it, I'd be pretty pleased.
