According to STV Sport, a Scottish television network, young Arsenal midfielder Gedion Zelalem is reportedly on his way to Rangers on a loan deal. The Scottish giants, still working their way back up the Scottish football ladder after their financial capitulation a few years ago, are currently in the Scottish Championship, the second division of Scottish football.
We'll have more on this story as it progresses, but my initial thought on this rumored deal is: why? In terms of competition, the Scottish Championship is probably not even at League One's level. It seems like a bad sign at this stage of Zelalem's development for him to go out on loan to a club at that level. Someone of his immense ability potential would surely warrant a look from any number of Championship or League One sides.
Here's my feeble attempt at a positive outlook: Zelalem will be guaranteed playing time at a club that should boss most of the games it plays. He will be in a truly competitive situation for the first time ever which should be an improvement over the U-21 Barclays Premier League.
