Arsenal announce Calum Chambers transfer

Arsenal have confirmed the signing of Southampton's 19-year old defender Calum Chambers

Arsenal have confirmed the transfer of 19-year old Calum Chambers from Southampton for an undisclosed fee that is rumoured to be in the region of £11m with add-ons potentially raising the fee to £16m. Chambers becomes the 4th player to join the club this summer, following the signings of Alexis Sánchez, Mathieu Debuchy and David Ospina.

Although described by Southampton's website as a "tall, creative midfielder" Chambers has primarily played across the defence. Of his new signing, manager Arsène Wenger said "He can play at centre-back, right-back and central midfield. I hope he will give us competition for the players in these three positions". Wenger also admitted that while the fee was somewhat high because of the English premium, he was willing "to take a gamble because he is a player for the future".

Chambers' arrival means Carl Jenkinson is likely to leave on loan, with reported interest from West Ham and Hull City. Chambers will be the second choice right back and fourth choice centre back.

AND NOW IT'S OFFICIALLY REALLY OFFICIAL: Arsenal.com has it, so there we are.
