Earlier this morning, the Twitters gave us this little grain of sand:
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p>Colombian Radio reporting Higuain to Arsenal deal is almost complete!</p>— Arsenal FC (@FFArsenal) <a href="https://twitter.com/FFArsenal/status/343076348467769344">June 7, 2013</a></blockquote>

As with most grains of sand, I paid it very little heed - it's as interesting as any individual grain of sand, which is not very, and it's from a Colombian radio station, which...nothing against Colombian radio, but let's just say they're not my first place to look for reliable transfer news.
But then, just a few minutes ago, along comes an oyster: The Telegraph, reporting that Gonzalo Higuain is, indeed, an Arsenal target, and wants to go somewhere where he's "shown affection". When that grain of sand sits in that oyster for a while, well, there's your pearl!
Seriously, though, this would be a pretty amazing pickup for Arsenal. Higuain has the misfortune of playing striker in a league that contains the two best strikers of the last 20 years; as such he labors in something resembling obscurity, and gets a ton of crap for his "inconsistent" finishing - but when you're in a league with Ronaldo and Messi, and on a team with Ronaldo, as a striker you're going to look like a hack no matter what you do.
If you're one of those who feels Higuain is inconsistent, check it, yo:
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p>Can't believe there are Gooners who genuinely don't want Higuaín. Inconsistent you say? Oh really? <a href="http://t.co/0061ddXjVc" title="http://twitter.com/MessiMinutes/status/343075762561220609/photo/1">twitter.com/MessiMinutes/s…</a></p>— Messi Minutes (@MessiMinutes) <a href="https://twitter.com/MessiMinutes/status/343075762561220609">June 7, 2013</a></blockquote>

So yeah, I may have been skeptical when this was merely a Colombian morning zoo radio story, but now I'm getting more excited by the hour. I would love to see Higuain in red and white.
UPDATE: Here's another source that says a deal is "closing in", and mentions that Wenger actually has spoken to Higuain. These are the kind of rumors I like - ones with actual information behind them.
