Good morning, TSFers! I hope everyone that celebrates had a nice holiday and that those of you who don’t had a relaxing weekend and (hopefully) day off. It was nice here, a bit lower key than normal, which was welcome. I didn’t feel quite as worn out by festivities as I have in the past.
Looking back at the pre-Christmas fixtures, a few results stand out. Sheffield United nearly walked away from Villa Park with all three points — Nicola Zaniolo rescued a point for Unai Emery’s side with a 97th minute goal. West Ham beat Manchester United 2-0. United continue their spiral, although perhaps the news that Sir Jim Ratcliffe finally took a 25% share will turn around their fortune. Luton Town beat Newcastle 1-0. Those Hatters are frisky at home, as Arsenal learned. Newcastle need time off to rest and get healthy, and none is coming.
We’ve got a full slate of matches over the next three days, with five today. As I write this, Newcastle-Nottingham Forest are playing. Sheffield United-Luton Town, a relegation 6-pointer and Bournemouth-Fulham (who cares?) are both at 10 am ET. Burnley host Liverpool at 12:30 and Manchester United host Aston Villa at 3 pm ET. Not the most attractive slate of games, but you’ve got some interesting storylines. And any day where you can watch footie all day (or at least have it on in the background) is a good one!
