IKTS Week 3: At Manchester City before the interlull.

Arsenal got the Odegaard transfer at snail pace while Chelsea got the Lukaku transfer in record time. There is an almost amateurish feeling about all of this, and it also showed on the pitch. Pablo Mari could not deal with Lukaku but the whole defensive set up (and odd pressing patterns) looked suspicious. This also marked the second game in a row Arsenal were denied a penalty. Liverpool was only able to win by the score of 2-0 against Burnley. Aston Villa took care of Newcastle by the same score. Brighton achieved the same feat against Watford. Crystal Palace versus Brentford ended scoreless. Leeds and Everton tied 2-2 in a lively game. Manchester City annihilated Norwich to the tune of 5-0. Southampton tied Manchester United 1-1, bettering their last season's outcome, a 2-3 loss after they had led 2-0. Wolverhampton lost at home 0-1 to the noisy neighbors led by their previous manager. Finally, West Ham punished Leicester 4-1 as the Foxes had Perez red-carded. The eight participants (welcome back, Geaux_HR!) combined for 64 points, for an average of 8 points per participant, and there were six correct IKTS predictions.

Scores for the week:

ben from portsmouth 11 (1)
ClevelandJames 10 (1)
skinnejay 9 (2)
hansdampf 9 (1)
ray from Norfolk 8 (0)
Sonny from Suffolk 8 (0)
Geaux_HR 7 (1)
inthekcmix 2 (0)

Stars of the week: ben from portsmouth is first on 11 points (and one correct IKTS prediction) with ClevelandJames in second on 10 points (and one correct IKTS prediction) and skinnejay in third on 9 points (and two correct IKTS predictions) edging hansdampf who is also on 9 points (but only one correct IKTS prediction) while the others are behind.

Clever pick of the week: Only skinnejay had the exact score for Wolverhampton versus Tottenham and only hansdampf had the correct score for Arsenal versus Chelsea. Two participants (ben from portsmouth and ClevelandJames) had the exact score for Brighton versus Watford while another two (skinnejay and Geaux_HR) had the correct score for Liverpool versus Burnley.

Crisis pick of the week: inthekcmix was the only participant to predict an Aston Villa loss at home to Newcastle, but two additional participants picked a draw, while the others scored points.

EL Cup game: Arsenal scored a half dozen at West Bromwich Albion without conceding, hopefully restoring some confidence, and the draw for the next round was a great one, at home versus Wimbledon. All participants who posted predictions score a point; the two who forgot, including yours truly, will collect bagels. Cinnamon raisin as far as mine, please.

Cup scores after the first game:

ben from portsmouth 1 (0)
ClevelandJames 1 (0)
Geaux_HR 1 (0)
hansdampf 1 (0)
skinnejay 1 (0)
Sonny from Portsmouth 1 (0)
inthekcmix 0 (0)
Ray from Norfolk 0 (0)
