Arsenal take on Chelsea today at the Emirates in the first of two matches in a friendly round robin series named the Mind Series. Tottenham will join their London rivals in the competition. A portion of the proceeds from the matches will go to Mind, a foundation that provides mental health care and resources worldwide. The rest of the proceeds will be split between each of the three clubs’ charitable foundations to support their work.
Where are these proceeds coming from? The matches will only be shown on Arsenal.com, ChelseaFC.com, and TottenhamHotspur.com, and a pass to stream will cost £7.99 per match. Not to bury the lede here, but proceeds will also come from TICKET SALES! Yes, fans will be back at the Emirates for today’s match.
Just today’s match home to Chelsea and next Saturday’s match away to Tottenham stand between Arsenal and their Premier League opener, Friday, August 13th away to newly promoted Brentford. Mikel Arteta will need to integrate new signing Ben White, who starts today on the bench, into the setup quickly.
Arsenal have named a 25-man roster for today’s match, which is absolutely wild when you think about how many players we thought the club would move on this summer compared to how many (none) have actually moved on. There is still so much work to be done to trim and retool the roster, and it looks like a good portion of that will be done after the start of the Premier League season.
Today’s lineup looks pretty close to what I expect to see on opening day from the Gunners, depending on Bukayo Saka’s availability and Ben White’s integration into the squad. Chelsea have also named a strong side for today’s match.
