Tuesday Cannon Fodder: around the league

Arsenal have been rather quiet on a news front the last few days, although there’s a Ben White signing announcement on the way sometime later this week per reports. But the rest of the league has been busy signing and selling players.

The biggest moves have been Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane to Manchester United, even if the latter isn’t officially official yet.

Aston Villa pipped Arsenal earlier this summer for Emi Buendia, to the annoyance of many Gooners. But apparently, breaking-ish news this morning, a move for Martin Ødegaard, which had been closed off, is a possibility once again.

Chelsea have sold the most handsome man in the Premier Leauge, Mr. Olivier Giroud, to A.C. Milan. Beyond that, the Blues have had a quiet summer, but they did a bunch of spending last summer. I’d also bet they’ll make one or two buys before the window closes.

Everton has made a handful of low-risk transfers, signing Andros Townsend on a free and moving for Demari Gray and Asmir Begovic. Those moves don’t knock your socks off, but they’re solid, Premier League proven players who’ll be meaningful contributors this season.

Leicester City, as they always do, have made shrewd moves in the transfer market, signing Patson Daka from Red Bull Salzburg and Boubakary Soumare from Lille. They also signed Ryan Bertrand, which prevented the Arsenal front office from bringing in another expensive, aging outside back, so thanks to the Foxes for that.

Liverpool have made just one major move so far, signing Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig. They also let Gini Wijnaldum move on a free to PSG, much to the chagrin of a segment of their supporters.

Manchester City, oddly enough, have not had any major incomings as of yet. Sergio Aguero and Eric Garcia both moved to Barcelona on free transfers.

Just yesterday, Tottenham bought Bryan Gil from Sevilla with Erik Lamela going back the other way. Spurs also brought in keeper Pierluigi Gollini on loan.

I think that covers the major moves in the Premier League so far. Let me know if I’ve missed any and give me your take!
