Arsenal Women have confirmed the signing of midfielder Frida Maanum. The 22-year old joins from Linköpings in the Swedish Damallsvenskan, where she was the club captain. Maanum had scored 3 goals in 10 games this season, having scored 7 in 20 games last season. Maanum, who features regularly for Norway, is one of a number of up and coming talents from Scandinavia, and having played in the Damallsvenskan, new manager Jonas Eidevall will be familiar with her.

Welcome to The Arsenal, @FMaanum ❤️ pic.twitter.com/JQs8VyHKWH
Maanum is an all-round attacking midfielder. She can play higher up, as a number 10, but also as a number 8. She adds height and physicality to Arsenal’s midfield, and makes consistently intelligent runs off the ball, while also being a good deliverer of the final ball, be it a pass or a shot. In deeper positions, Maanum is a good long-range passer, and there was competition among Europe’s best clubs to sign her.

Maanum is one of the biggest talents coming out of Norway. Her ability in the final third & vision is incredible. She has a wicked shot on her. Great in 1v1 situations and loves to drive forward with the ball. pic.twitter.com/ifTbG6x3gp
Maanum will not only provide depth to Arsenal’s midfield, but immediate competition for a starting role. Speaking to Arsenal.com, Jonas Eidevall said, “We are very happy to bring Frida into our squad. She is already an experienced player and her technical ability paired with her leadership qualities will align to the style of football that we want to play here. We are looking forward to working with her.”
Frida will wear the #12 shirt—previously worn by Steph Catley, who has switched to #7.
