Friday Cannon Fodder: open thread

Apparently I had a lot on my mind this morning.

I’m trying something a little different with CF and the Euros today — I’m going to split out threads for each match into it’s own post rather than having everything here. That way, we can chat about the day’s random things / Arsenal news here and the matches there. I think it will be cleaner that way.

So anyways, how’s everybody doing? For those of you in the U.S., especially the Pacific Northwest, did you make it through the Heat Dome alright? How about those of you in New York City where they requested that individuals limit their electricity consumption while keeping Times Square lit up like a Christmas Tree? Woo boy, it sure feels like Mother Nature is giving us a pretty stern warning about climate change.

In other news, any particular NIL deals caught your eye? ICYMI, yesterday was the first day that college athletes were allowed to sign licensing and representation deals with brands to profit off their own name, image, and likeness (hence NIL). It only took however long the NCAA has been in existence for us to right that wrong, but good for us, I guess.

Also in random news, is anybody else as disappointed that in the year of our lord 2021 we’re still suspending athletes for having marijuana in their system? We’re likely to miss out on seeing the fastest U.S. woman 100M sprinter in a long while, Sha’carri Richardson, because she smoked weed to help herself cope with the news that her biological mother recently died. It would be really nice if we could move beyond the nonsense, puritanical, borderline racist prohibitions we have in place against recreational drugs like marijuana that are, at the worst, on par with alcohol and cigarettes in terms of their negative physical effects.

Anyway, there’s a small sampling of whats been on my mind the past few days. What do y’all think?
