Most people find it fun to step into the shoes of the manager or executive in charge of club transfers in games like Football Manager or FIFA. Chasing the next breakout star or big-name player to add to your squad, but there can also be worthwhile value looking towards players with potential who are at clubs struggling. As we wrap up this series looking at transfer options from the three clubs relegated from the Premier League, which player would be the best fit/price if you had to add one add someone from Fulham for the projected value?
Relegation Transfer Target Series: Sheffield United | West Brom
Tosin Adarabioyo
Position: Center back
Projected Value: $13 million
Argument For: Coming from the Manchester City academy, Adarabioyo left the club after a series of loans for just $2 million. At 6’4” only Pablo Mari can match his height from Arsenal’s defense. He led Fulham in blocks, interceptions, clearances, completed passes, and was 2nd in aerial duels won and minutes played. With David Luiz gone, Arsenal needs to add a 4th option at CB. While that role is likely to be Saliba, followed by Mavropanos, if the club finds themselves needing an affordable young CB option, with some Premier League experience, Adarabioyo for under $15 is worth a look. Plus he is half the estimated price of Fulham’s other young CB Joachim Andersen.
André Zambo Anguissa
Position: Defensive Midfield
Projected Value: $28 million
Argument For: The Cameroonian is already being linked to clubs such as Arsenal and Lazio, as his abilities belong in top-flight football. With over 150 matches across the Premier League, La Liga, and Ligue 1, Anguissa would be a ready-to-start contributor in the midfield alongside Thomas Partey, especially if Granit Xhaka completes his rumored move to Roma. In addition to his three assists, Anguissa led Fulham in tackles, pressures, interceptions, progressive passes, and completed passes into the final third, and was second in both blocks and actions that led to goals. If Arsenal gets $25m for Xhaka and knowing that Dani Ceballos will not return next season, bringing Anguissa in would add much-needed young, but experienced depth to the Gunners’ midfield.
Ademola Lookman
Position: Winger
Projected Value: $12 million
Argument For: On loan from RB Leipzig, the versatile attacker was one of Fulham’s three main weapons on offense this season. With four goals and four assists, he played every position across the front line and in the attacking midfield role. Second in crosses & passes into the 18, he led Fulham in both actions that led to shots and those which led to eventual goals. It’s unclear if Leipzig plans to use him next season or if he would push for another move to the Premier League. With Willian rumored to exit and Arteta not convinced by Reiss Nelson last season, Lookman for $10-$15m, might be a solid addition to the Arsenal attack, plus he qualifies as a home-grown player.
Antonee Robinson
Position: Left-back
Projected Value: $8 million
Argument For: The USMNT and Everton-academy defender made a huge step forward during the 20-21 season, his first in the Premier League. With 32 matches at left-back/midfield this season, he led the team in blocks, passes into the 18, and crosses completed, plus Fulham were just -9 while he was on the pitch. If he could be convinced to be Tierney’s backup, starting in Cup matches and a bench option for defense & midfield, he would be of great value considering his price tag, age, national team experience, and potential to improve.
While Arsenal may not have pressing needs at winger and center-back, they definitely could use an injection to the squad at left-back and defensive midfield. Anguissa is the big money target, but Adarabioyo offers an interesting option as a young, developing center-back, while Robinson would be a great candidate for Kieran Tierney’s backup if he could be convinced to be 2nd in the depth chart but at a much bigger club.
So if you are Arsenal this summer and you have to add one player from Fulham, for their estimated price tag, who are you making the move for and why?
