Leah Williamson has signed a new contract with Arsenal, ending speculation that she could leave this summer. Williamson’s previous contract expired at the end of the month, and in the winter she was linked with interest from three giants: Olympique Lyon, Paris St. Germain, and Wolfsburg.

Williamson’s contract renewal is a big boost for both the club and fans. Williamson, an Arsenal fan of course, joined the club at the age of 9, and has gone on to make 165 appearances for the club. Having come through as a midfielder, Williamson moved to centre back under the previous manager, Joe Montmurro, and while she is still very capable in central midfield, she has become one of the club’s key players through her role at centre back.

Speaking to Arsenal.com, Williamson said, “I’ve got everything I want in my world, everything that is important to me because genuinely Arsenal is up there in the most important things in my life, of course it is. It’s such a big part of my family and I’ve got all of those things all together, which just makes it, you know? It makes me happy, it always has done.”

Clare Wheatley, head of women’s football, said, “It’s clear to everyone how much Leah loves the club and she embodies everything that we stand for on and off the pitch. We are delighted that she’s signed another contract with us, she believes in our ambitions and she’s obviously a very important part of the team and It’s a big boost for everyone – fans, team-mates and staff.”
