On Monday, I wrote about what a good sports weekend this past one was with the NFL, all the FA cup matches, and the NBA back in action. I know we’ve touched on what other teams y’all follow, mostly in the “Getting to Know You” post we do at the start of each season, but other sports are on my mind today.
That’s mostly because the NHL returns to action today, which makes me quite happy. When I started writing for TSF a few years ago, hockey was my favorite sport. It was my favorite sport for most of my childhood, truthfully. I was a soccer player and fan as well, but hockey was my first love. In the past two years or so, soccer has eclipsed hockey for that top spot.
It probably has something to do with my hometown, favorite team the Washington Capitals winning the Stanley Cup and the subsequent emotional release caused by seeing my team and “my” guys finally get over that hump. In fact, I’m sure you could write a decently long sports-fan-psychology analysis of why that kind of thing happens.
I know most of y’all aren’t just soccer fans, so what other teams are you reppin’? How has your sport and team fandom changed over the years?
