The 2019-20 European football season will finally draw to a close today with Bayern Munich set to meet Paris St. Germain in the Champions League Final this afternoon. Bayern are seeking their 6th title, which would tie Liverpool for 3rd most all-time. PSG are seeking their first win on their deepest ever run in the tournament — before this year, the Parisians had never been beyond the quarterfinals.
Fun fact: PSG is apparently trying to rebrand, and they have asked TV broadcasters to use “PAR” as their tri-code on scorebugs instead of “PSG”. The more you know.
I’m anticipating a high scoring-chance contest. Neither side have a defense that inspires confidence, and Bayern could be without centerback Jerome Boateng, who is a late doubt for the match. It will come down to who finishes their chances, and of late, Bayern have been better in that department. They’ve scored 15 goals in 3 matches to PSG’s 5 in 2.
Familiar face Serge Gnabry has blossomed into a bona-fide star, and he’s the “secondary scorer” behind 2019-20 European Golden Shoe leader Robert Lewandowski. Neymar, while not lacking for scoring chances, did not score in either the QF or the SF. He’s going to need to be at his best for PSG to have a chance.
My prediction, 4-1 to Bayern.
Will post the lineups when released.
