Trophies are hard to come by and it seems these days they are also hard to handle. For the second weekend in a row, a champion was crowned, and a trophy was dropped.
When 23-year-old Collin Morikawa won the PGA Championship over the weekend he won a cash prize of $1.98 million as well as the Wanamaker Trophy. When he was handed the massive piece of silverware and raised it over his head, the top of the trophy fell off. It surprised Morikawa and of course was included in all the evening’s sports highlight reels. It also became a topic of conversation on social media.
Arsenal fans on Twitter didn’t miss a beat pointing out the similarities to Pierre-Emerick Auubameyang’s recent drop of the FA Cup.
Following Arsenal’s 2-1 FA Cup victory over Chelsea, the Arsenal captain received the trophy and was preparing to hold it aloft in celebration. As his teammates looked on, Aubameyang struggled with the cup and it slipped from his hands.
The players saw the funny side of things and had a good laugh as they enjoyed the post- match jubilation at Wembley Stadium.
Here’s a look at some of the best reactions and comparisons from Arsenal fans with regards to Morikawa’s trophy mishap:
