The best thing about today’s Arsenal - Watford match is that it ended without any Gunners getting injured or sent off. The second best bit is that Arsenal won 3-2. Watford go down along with Norwich and Bournemouth.
There’s not much more to say about this one, to be honest. Arsenal didn’t take the match off, but you could tell they weren’t fully “in it” which is understandable ahead of a massive FA Cup Final next weekend. Watford’s xG was over 4, the Gunners were just under 2. Emi Martinez, yet again, made some heroic saves to preserve the win.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored twice to make the Golden Boot race interesting, but he couldn’t find a third to even Jamie Vardy’s 23 goals on the season. Eddie Nketiah tried to set PEA up on a 2-on-0 (that he might have been better served to take himself) to no avail. Kieran Tierney tallied his first Arsenal goal. David Luiz gave away a record-setting 5th penalty of the season.
And so the Gunners wrap up their worst Premier League campaign in 25 years with a win that moves them to 8th in the table. They get a bit more prize money as a result, which is something. A win over Chelsea in the FA Cup Final next weekend will make all that seem like a footnote.
