Wednesday cannon fodder: GOAT quiz finish

14 days, two facts, and one Sporcle.

Two weeks from today is the first Arsenal matchday since the Premier League was suspended in early March. That’s 14 days. I’ve got two “14” facts for you.

We all know Thierry Henry wore #14. What you may not know is that he scored the last goal ever at Highbury.

It was a penalty kick that completed a hat trick against Tottenham Wigan***, the victory secured Champions League qualification, and kept Tottenham out. He knelt down and kissed the turf in celebration. Since that fact has a bit of a tenuous connection to the number of the day, I’ve got another one for you.

Arsenal have finished below 14th place just seven times in 92 years of top-flight football.

The Gunners also own the longest streak without being relegated. The Gunners last went down in the 1912-1913. They came right back up the next season.

It’s also Wednesday, so that means you get a Sporcle too! Today’s quiz is Last Five: World Soccer Hosts — you’ve got to name the five countries that most recently hosted the major international tournaments listed (World Cup, Africa Cup of Nations, AFC Asian Cup, CONCACAF Gold Cup, Copa America, OFC Nations Cup, UEFA European Championship). I got 28/36, some of which just by guessing countries. The quiz doesn’t give you that much time, so you can’t get that many by spamming names.

***Ed. note: I misunderstood the article I read while researching this — that last match at Highbury was against Wigan but the goal kept Spurs out of the CL — thanks to Our Bovine Public for correcting me.
