Just a day after French newspaper L’Equipe reported that Matteo Guendouzi could be on his way out at Arsenal this summer, ESPNFC reports that the club “don’t want to sell” and still believe in the French midfielder.

Mikel Arteta did not answer questions about the situation at his most recent press conference, saying the club will continue to keep internal issues private. He also said, “all the players that are here, I am counting on them. If they want on the boat, they are more than welcome and that’s always my mindset,” leading to speculation that Guendouzi might not want on the good ship Arsenal.

Today’s ESPN report signals to me that this whole Guendouzi “situation” is the typical posturing and maneuvering from club and player/agent. He wasn’t happy about being dropped from the squad for disciplinary reasons so his camp leaks that he’d be open to leaving. Arsenal call up one of their go-to reporters to refute the story. And we move on.

The bottom line is Guendouzi, understandably, wants to play more. Arteta wants to see something else/different from the midfielder before he gives him more time. I think they’ll figure it out.
