It wasn’t the cleanest win. Arsenal didn’t slice and dice Southampton, ruthlessly tearing them to shreds with precision passing and stifling defense. It was scrappy and often ugly. But it was a win.
Sometimes all a club needs is that first “W” to swing the momentum, lift the spirits, and spark a run of form. Arsenal still have work to do to make the Europa League next season, but at least they’re moving up the table instead of down it today.
To my eye, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Rob Holding, and Shkodran Mustafi all put in great games. Emi Martinez made the one big save he needed to make to keep Arsenal up 1-0 at the time. Eddie Nketiah still has developing to do, but he ran himself ragged all match and earned his goal with his well-timed hustle. Joe Willock was Johnny-on-the-spot, in the right place at the right time to get that crucial second goal.
So what did you think of the performance from the lads today?
