Monday cannon fodder: weekend recap

Now that there’s football back, here’s what happened in non-Arsenal matches.

Premier League

Norwich 0 - Southampton 3
Danny Ings, Stuart Armstrong, and Nathan Redmond scored for the Saints. Norwich really aren’t good, and Arsenal drew them earlier this year.

Tottenham 1 - Manchester United 1
Bruno Fernandes converted a Paul Pogba-earned Eric Dier-conceded penalty to share the points after Steve Bergwijn had put Spurs in the first half.

Watford 1 - Leicester City 1
The Foxes thought they’d earned the points on Ben Chillwell’s absolute cracker of a goal in the 90th minute only to be pegged back by Craig Dawson’s (?!?) overhead kick goal in the 93rd.

West Ham 0 - Wolves 2
Late goals from Pedro Neto and Raul Jimenez won the points for the visitors and moved them into a tie for 5th with Manchester United. Adama Traore’s substitute appearance in the second half was the difference.

Bournemouth 0 - Crystal Palace 2
First half goals from Luka Milivojevic and Jordan Ayew were enough for the Eagles to see off the Cherries. The three points took Palace two ahead of Arsenal for 9th place.

Newcastle 3 - Sheffield United 0
Blades defender John Egan was sent off in the 50th minute for hauling Joelinton down from behind on a breakaway. Up a man, the Magpies knocked home three to take the points.

Aston Villa 1 - Chelsea 2
The Villans led at the break but Christian Pulisic scored just five minutes after coming on midway through the second half, and Olivier Giroud netted two minutes later for a Blues’ come-from-behind win.

Everton 0 - Liverpool 0
With Mo Salah on the bench, Liverpool lacked their finishing edge and ruthlessness up front, which was all Everton needed to grind out a result. They even had a chance to snatch the points, but Allison stopped a Dominic Calvert-Lewin header and Tom Davies put the rebound off the post.

La Liga

Sevilla 0 - Barcelona 0
There wasn’t much in this one, with both sides not generating many chances. Barca’s stumble opened the door for Madrid to catch them at the top of La Liga...

Atletico Madrid 1 - Valladolid 0
A late goal from substitute Vitolo lifted the home side to the win. Atleti’s win moved them back into a tie for third with Sevilla.

Real Sociedad 1 - Real Madrid 2
...which Madrid did one the strength of goals from Sergio Ramos and Karim Benzema. The Spanish giants drew level with their Catalan rivals on 65 points.

Bundesliga

RB Leipzig 0 - Dortmund 2
An Erling Haaland double clinched second place for Dortmund, moving them 6 points clear of Leipzig in third with one to play. American Giovanni Reyna made his league debut.

Bayern 3 - SC Freiburg 1
A goal from Joshua Kimmich and a double from Robert Lewandowski keep Bayern 10 points clear at the top of the Bundesliga table.

Paderborn 1 - Monchengladbach 3
Lars Stindl hit a second half double for Gladbach after Sven Michel scored for Paderborn to erase Patrick Herrmann’s early marker.

Hertha 2 - Leverkusen 0
Leverkusen slipped out of the Champions League places with just one match remaining on the Bundesliga slate. Former Watford man Dodi Lukebakio had a goal and an assist.

Serie A

Atalanta 4 - Sassuolo 1
A Duván Zapata brace, a goal from Berat Djimsiti, and an own goal by Mehdi Bourabia were more than enough to lift Atalanta to the points. Bourabia got the lone marker for Sassuolo in 2nd-half added time.

Inter Milan 2 - Sampdoria 1
Markers from Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez were enough to hold off Morten Thorsby’s second half goal and move Inter back to 6 points clear in third.
