Arsenal won their third consecutive Premier League game with a VAR assisted 1-0 victory over West Ham. Mikel Arteta’s team struggled to create many clear cut chances, and West Ham had chances of their own, before Mesut Ozil’s header teed up Alexandre Lacazette’s winning goal. Initially deemed offside, the goal was checked by VAR and given after a lengthy delay.
Arsenal have won three consecutive games in the Premier League for the first time since February 2019. While the performance is of some concern, and perhaps creates more questions for Mikel Arteta, results are also important, and having gotten to the magic 40 point mark, Arsenal can be assured that they won’t be relegated. It also keeps slim Champions League hopes alive, with the Gunners now only five points back of Chelsea in 4th place.
