As the world battles the coronavirus, football and all sports have taken a back seat. Arsenal players are currently staying at home with their immediate families and avoiding social contact. For Mesut Özil, it’s an opportunity for him and his wife to bond with their first child.
Özil provided fans with a bit of a happy reprieve from the craziness currently going on in the world. He posted on both his Twitter and Instagram accounts the first photo of his newborn daughter Eda.
Özil did not travel with his teammates to Athens for the Gunners’ Europa League round of 32 back in February. Instead, he was allowed to remain in London while he and his wife, Amine Gulse, were awaiting the birth of their child.
Özil and Gulse got married in Istanbul last June. It was just three months later when the couple, along with teammate Sead Kolasinac were set upon by armed robbers.
In his heartfelt post Özil said, “Thank God our daughter Eda has come into the world healthy. God willing she be a good child to us and all of humanity.”
Özil has shown that he has a soft spot for children. He has been involved in numerous charitable organizations helping children throughout his career.
Fans sent messages of congratulations via social media to the new parents.
Özil’s good news was definitely a nice diversion from the world’s current events.
