2019-20 was not an ideal year for the Arsenal left side of defense. First, the club let Nacho Monreal leave at the start of the year, while the defensive line and depth remained up in the air. Sead Kolasinac was sidelined at the start after the altercation with attackers outside of Mesut Ozil’s vehicle, and has been on and off the injury list.
Kieran Tierney was brought in as the hopeful future of the position. Something he could still become, but Tierney joined the club with an injury and has been plagued with more setbacks all season. So the club turned to young left winger Bukayo Saka to fill in. He has proven to be up to the task and quite often has provided extra attacking threat down that flank. But imagine what the club could look like with a proper left side of the defense behind Saka, returning to his natural position.
David Luiz, Sokratis and Shkodran Mustafi have all had up and down performances leading to the club getting a loan deal for 26-year-old Pablo Marí.
Sky Sports News is reporting that Arsenal are among a number of clubs scouting Eintracht Frankfurt’s Evan N’Dicka for a potential summer transfer. N’Dicka is 20-years-old and has featured for each of the French youth sides from U16 up through U21. He got his start at AJ Auxerre before joining Eintracht in the summer of 2018.
He already has 61 appearances for the German club and has lined up in the left back position a number of times already. If the Gunners were able to offload a senior centerback and one of the younger options that may not have panned out yet (i.e. Konstantinos Mavropanos) Evan N’Dicka might be an intriguing addition for $25-30m. Experience in the Europa League and the Bundesliga for just being 20, he could be a player that Mikel Arteta is able to help mold into a Premier League starting level defender.
Compared to last week’s rumored defensive target, Issa Diop, which player would you rather the club purchase this summer?
