Wednesday Cannon Fodder: time for a quiz, class

Good morning TSF and happy Wednesday. Hopefully you know what hump day means by now. That’s right, Sporcle time! I actually watched more Champions League match-time yesterday than I had in a while, so today’s quiz is about that marquee European competition.

Name the Champions League winners. I think the strategy here is pretty obvious, name the big clubs that you know have won. Beyond that, good luck. There are some obscure ones on there, and if you get those, kudos to you.

Yesterday, by shutting out Barcelona 3-0, Gigi Buffon recorded yet another Champions League clean sheet. He kept his first clean sheet in the Champions League in 1997. That’s 23 years. He’s the second oldest keeper to play in the competition and one of the greatest of all-time. He keeps talking about retirement, but I wouldn’t put it past him to play another season or three. If he does, he’ll become the oldest keeper to ever play in the CL and the oldest keeper to ever play in Serie A.

There was a funny clip from yesterday’s broadcast of Juve-Barca. After the match, cameras caught Leo Messi grabbing the back of Buffon’s jersey to pull him back. Turns out Messi wanted to exchange kits with Buffon. Game recognize game.
