Who is the one Arsenal player you wish had spent more time at the club?

Yesterday, or maybe it was over the weekend who knows what time even is anymore, there was a tweet trending on soccer Twitter that said something to the extent of: “which player who played for your club do you wish had spent more time there?”

So I put that question to you, TSFers. Who do you wish had spent more time at Arsenal?

My answer came to me pretty quickly: Cesc Fabregas.

When Arsenal sold him to Barcelona, he had a lot left in the tank. He was 24 years old and entering the prime of his career. Man, think about that. All the brilliance he displayed for Arsenal, and he was just getting started. It’s tough to shine at Leo Messi’s Barcelona, but he had three great seasons there, scoring 42 goals and adding 41 assists. He had plenty left to give when he returned to the Premier League with Chelsea.

Coming back to the PL to play for Chelsea stings, and that’s supposedly not on Fabregas. Arsenal reportedly had a right of first refusal on his services should he return to England, and they turned down the opportunity to bring him back to North London. In 350 Premier League matches, Fabregas managed 111 assists, good for second all-time and the highest per game rate of any of the top 10 assist-men on the all-time PL list.

I also just realized that Cesc is just 33 years old and currently playing for Monaco (I knew the Monaco part). Amazing the career longevity you can have when you make your senior debut at 16 years old. I also learned that he was born the same month and year as I was, and that made me feel old and useless, so that part was less fun.

But yeah, I wish he had spent more time at Arsenal.
