Vivianne Miedema, who is extremely good at the sport of association football, has been nominated for The Best FIFA Women’s Player. This years The Best awards take into account football from the day after the 2019 Women’s World Cup final through to October 7 of this year. In that period, Miedema has scored 31 goals in 22 games for Arsenal, with another 10 assists, with another five goals and an assist in four games of European qualifiers with the Netherlands. She was the Golden Boot winner of the curtailed 2019-20 WSL season.

Miedema recently set the all-time record for WSL goals, and has been scoring at an absurd rate this season. At this point, her excellence is well-known, with those questioning it, or questioning how much she contributes in big games only doing so from a place of deliberate obtuseness. While Miedema herself doesn’t care much about individual awards, it’s well past the point where her excellence should be recognized globally—especially after the travesty of the 2019 awards, when she inexplicably did not make the world XI.
