Following the completion of Thomas Partey’s move to Arsenal, the club announced his shirt number. Partey will have the number 18, and his shirt will say “THOMAS” on the back of it. The number, 18, was last worn, quite successfully, by Nacho Monreal. The Ghana international wore #5 at Atletico Madrid, but that number is currently taken by Sokratis.
Of his new signing, Mikel Arteta said, “We have been watching Thomas for a while, so we’re now delighted to add such a high quality player to our squad. He is a dynamic midfielder with great energy.” Arteta also said that Thomas is, “an intelligent footballer and we’re looking forward to him integrating into our system and contributing to the progress we’re building at the moment at the club.”
Thomas will join up with the club next week, following international duty with Ghana. Ghana play Mali on Friday and Qatar on Sunday.
