As expected, Matteo Guendouzi has completed a loan move to Hertha Berlin for the upcoming season. Reports yesterday were that while Arsenal would not receive a loan fee from the German club, Hertha would pay his wages. That’s a decent cost savings for the Gunners.
What’s important is that Arsenal are rid of the headache that an entire season of “will Matteo Guendouzi return to the team sheet” would have been for the club. More important is the chance for the Frenchman to play, develop, and either rehabilitate his transfer value / improve as a player for if he continues his career at Arsenal. Given the club’s needs in midfield, Guendouzi could still play a part in North London or fetch a nice chunk of change next summer to put towards another purchase.
The Gunners seem to have left things late, but the news and the deals are picking up steam in the final hours before the transfer window closes at 11 PM BT. Deadlines spur action.
