Manchester City 1 - Arsenal 0
An underwhelming offensive performance from the Gunners undoes what was at least a decent defensive effort.
Everton 2 - Liverpool 2
VAR, or the lack thereof, was front and center in this one. It’s still not clear what happened / was reviewed on a wild Jordan Pickford challenge on Virgil van Dijk that could have earned a red and tore the defender’s ACL. Liverpool had two goals called back for offside. Richarlison got himself sent off, without VAR, for a nasty tackle in Thiago.
Chelsea 3 - Southampton 3
Chelsea summer signings Timo Werner (two goals) and Kai Havertz both got on the scoreboard, but Chelsea were undone by shaky keeping from Kepa and shoddy defense. Southampton scored their equalizer in the 92nd minute.
Newcastle 1 - Manchester United 4
It took United until the 86th minute to break a 1-1 deadlock, and they managed three quick goals, including one in the 96th minute. Bruno Fernandes missed his first penalty for the club.
Sheffield United 1 - Fulham 1
An 85th minute VAR-awarded penalty kick for the Blades split the points and got both clubs off the schnide for the season. These teams are not good.
Crystal Palace 1 - Brighton & Hove Albion 1
Keeping with the theme of late goals, Brighton got a 90th minute equalizer from Alexis Mac Allister. Palace’s only shot of the game was Wilf Zaha’s converted penalty.
Tottenham Hotspur 3 - West Ham United 3
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Spurs were leading 3-0 at the 80-minute mark and managed to tie. That’s only happened two other times in Premier League history.
Leicester City 0 - Aston Villa 1
Ross Barkley scored in the 91st minute to snatch the points for Villa. In one fewer game than most of the league, Villa have given up the fewest goals in the Premier League this season.
