Arsenal have their first training session back from the international break today. It’ll be Thomas Partey’s first chance to knock a ball around with his new teammates, and an opportunity for him to integrate into the squad.
Mikel Arteta was non-committal on whether Partey would feature at the weekend, saying only that they would see how things go in training. The Gunners face Manchester City on Saturday at 12:15 PM. Also this weekend is the Merseyside Derby (7:30 AM Saturday) and an intriguing Wolves-Leeds United match on Monday afternoon.
With that match against City, the Gunners enter a crazy portion of the schedule. The squad has 7 matches in three weeks, one every three days, until the next international break. Mikel Arteta will have to heavily rotate the side not only for the Europa League matches, but he will also have to manage the minutes for his preferred 11 in the Premier League.
From the selfish fan point of view, it’s great to have so many Arsenal matches to watch in such a short period of time. I’m concerned, however, about the toll the next three weeks is going to take on the squad from an injury and fatigue perspective. I guess we’ll see how it goes.
