We know that Raul Sanllehi does not like to be active in the January transfer window. Last season, Arsenal’s only addition was acquiring Denis Suárez on a loan, who went on to play a paltry 95 minutes for the club in total. But Mikel Arteta recently hinted that the club was “working on a few things” and that we’d know more once there is more to know.
Those few things might just be a loan move out for Emile Smith Rowe and a re-loan of Eddie Nketiah (who was recalled from Leeds United because of lack of playing time). Both have been linked with half-season moves to Championship sides.
In terms of players coming in, the silly season is in full swing. Arsenal have been linked to RB Leipzig centerback Dayot Upamecano, Juventus CB Daniele Rugani, and midfielder Adrian Rabiot, also currently at Juve. In the more tenuous category, the Gunners have been mentioned as having interest in Kevin Volland, Jerome Boateng, Wilfred Ndidi, Dries Mertens, Chris Smalling, James Rodriguez, and Ezequiel Barco. There are so many rumors this time of year that I’m sure I’ve missed some, but that’s what I have seen.
What do you think is Arsenal’s most pressing need is this window? Can the club get by with the current roster and Mikel Arteta’s coaching?
