Arsenal have announced that new left back Kieran Tierney will wear number 3. It’s the traditional left back number, so yeah, that checks out. For those of you keeping score at home, that leaves Laurent Koscielny’s vacated #6 as the only unused traditional numbering scheme number at the club.

It technically wasn’t available — right back Jordi Osei-Tutu wore it on the bench away to Vorskla last season and in Premier League 2. But Osei-Tutu hasn’t made his full senior debut and is currently out on loan at VfL Bochum in Bundesliga 2. And Kieran Tierney is the shiny, new £25M signing. You do the math.

Recent #3’s for Arsenal include Kieran Gibbs, Bacary Sagna, and Ashley Cole. Before them, the great Nigel Winterburn wore it for sixteen straight seasons. Kieran’s got some big shoes to fill. I think he’ll do fine. If you don’t believe me, check this out.
