So this has been a very odd transfer window. And one of the oddest pieces of said window just literally started happening a couple days ago. David Luiz, all of a sudden, woke up on Tuesday and decided he has always wanted to be an Arsenal player - or, more likely, his agent Kia Jorabchian decided David Luiz wanted to be an Arsenal player - and now, here we are, in a world where that has actually happened.
Welcome to The Arsenal, @DavidLuiz_4

I don’t think anyone believes Arsenal were one David Luiz away from becoming title contenders, Europa League winners, or Champions League returners. But, considering that Arsenal just said goodbye to Laurent Koscielny, Arsenal’s already shaky back line was even more unstable than before this. Luiz, again, won’t solve every problem, but alongside new signing Kieran Tierney, he helps shore up a defense that will also see the likes of Rob Holding and, later this fall, Hector Bellerin return to action.
In that light, thinking that Arsenal aren’t putting all their eggs in the David Luiz basket, paying a reported £8 million to acquire Luiz is a decent bit of business. Any more than that and I’d have some serious reservations, but for that price, I am more than OK with him being one of a series of defenders that will attempt to get Arsenal’s goals conceded down from the stratospheric heights of the last two seasons.
