Remember, they call this “silly season”. With that in mind:
Breaking | L'Équipe report that Chelsea defender David Luiz is seeking to force a move to Arsenal. More follows.— Get French Football News (@GFFN) August 7, 2019
That’s right. Arsenal just got rid of a 33 year old defender who is probably on the last legs of his career, and seem poised to replace him with...a 32 year old defender who is probably on the last legs of his career.
“David Luiz is seeking to force a move to Arsenal” seems great, right? I mean, it’s no “it’s my childhood dream to play for Arsenal” or anything, but....oh wait a sec I’m just being handed an update
David Luiz's agent........— Charles Watts (@charles_watts) August 7, 2019
And there it is! It’s Kia Jorrabchian’s childhood dream to play for Arsenal, but he’s an agent, so instead, all his players dream of it.
Look. I’m not opposed to the theory of David Luiz. But it’s 2019, and Arsenal desperately need a young center back that they can build around, not another old guy who is one injury away from finishing his career in Turkey. As long as he’s used properly (not every game!), I’d be kind of OK with this, but as a sprint-to-the-transfer-window-finish-line move goes, it’s mostly just...whelming.
