It’s been a heck of a year for the English Premier League.
We’ve got a title fight between Liverpool and Manchester City to be settled on the final matchday. We’ve got an all-Premier League Champions League Final between Liverpool and someone else. And now we’ve got a London-only Europa League Final as Chelsea defeated Eintracht Frankfurt in penalties to advance to face Arsenal in Baku, Azerbaijan, May 29.
Chelsea and Frankfurt were tied at 1 after regular time, but the successive extra time periods were hardly the bland defensive showcase that extra time normally is, with two goalline clearances for Chelsea and plenty of chances for them on the offensive end.
In the end, it’s a familiar matchup for both sides. And with the EPL table sealed up, neither should have to commit much toward this weekend.
So as of now, it’s full-speed ahead to Baku in three weeks, offering Arsenal a bit of light at the end of the Champions League tunnel for next year.
