For all the angst and unrest among the fan base for the last several months, Arsenal are in a European cup final! This is unequivocally a good thing - even if it’s not the final they want to be in, it’s their first European final since 2006, and that’s something to be excited about and to look forward to, even if it is against a familiar foe in Chelsea and not a European opponent.
And it’s something maybe to make an event out of! I watch most games at home, because I live on the west coast and I’m not going out for a 4 or a 6.30 AM kickoff to watch Arsenal play a league match. This is why DVR’s were invented. Bad fan? Maybe, but I like sleep, so.
Cup finals, on the other hand? Those are worth making plans for. Fortunately for the viewers, this game is on at a reasonable hour - noon out here on the west coast, 3PM back east, 8PM in England, none of which is reasonable in Baku where it’ll be an 11PM kickoff - so I don’t have to deal with a stupid early morning kickoff.
I, along with Aidan and Michael, will be at the fabulous Beulahland in NE Portland tomorrow - Beulah’s the Arsenal bar in Portland, started by an Irish ex-pat Arsenal fan who literally just wanted a place to watch Arsenal matches when he moved here in the mid-90’s and couldn’t find one, so he started a bar.
What about you? Where will you be watching Arsenal’s Europa League final? Feel free to shout out your local Arsenal bar or other favorite viewing spot. If you’re not going out, are you having people over or watching by yourself? Those of you who have to work, are you going to be able to keep an eye on the game while you do?
I want to hear about how y’all are going to watch. Tomorrow’s a big game, and it’s time to get properly excited about it!
