Per the Evening Standard’s James Olley, Arsenal Manager Unai Emery confirmed today that MF Aaron Ramsey will be out for remainder of 2018-19 season and thus has likely played for the last time in an Arsenal kit:
Emery confirms Aaron Ramsey is out for the season and would not be fit for the Europa League Final if Arsenal made it that far.
— James Olley (@JamesOlley) May 1, 2019
Ramsey injured his hamstring against Napoli in the second leg of the Europa League Quarter Finals on April 18. Arsenal are set to face Spanish side Valencia in the semifinals.
It’s a morose but perhaps fitting end for Ramsey’s Arsenal career.
Rambo was added to the team in the 2008 summer transfer window coming over from Cardiff City. After two early spells on loan, Ramsey found himself a key member of the starting lineup beginning in the 2011-12 season.
Perhaps a career retrospective is better left for a time beyond the season, so I won’t force a trip down memory lane or convene a meeting of the Aaron Rasmey Is Awesome Club. But with Arsenal’s executive management having bungled his contractual negotiations leaving him to leave for free this summer to join Juventus, it’s hard not to begin thinking of Aaron Ramsey with nostalgia and the melancholy it brings.
Aaron Ramsey’s season is over. Aaron Ramsey’s time with Arsenal is over.
Have a great day.
