Arsenal at Napoli preview: the Gunners have left the country

Hello Naples my old friend

Arsenal travels to Naples Thursday for what will surely be one of the club’s blockbuster ties of the season. The Gunners are set to square-off against Napoli in the second leg of their Europa League quarter final, and enter the match with a two goal advantage.

Any European evening in Naples is tough — just ask Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool — but couple this with Arsenal’s woeful away form and things get even more dicey. The Gunners lost both away legs in the previous two rounds of the Europa League, and have won away from the Emirates just three times in all competitions since the start of the new year.

However, Arsenal has form on its side. The North London giants have won four of their last five games in all competition, including a victory away from home on Monday, while Napoli have won just twice in their last five.

An additional boost for the English side is that Lucas Torreira traveled with the team to Naples, despite picking up a knock at Watford Wednesday.

It’s clear that Arsenal is in the business end of the season, but this will be a true measure of the club’s success it its first year under Unai Emery. With four teams fighting for the final two Champions League spots in the Premier League, winning the Europa League may be a more viable path for the Gunners back into Europe’s top club competition.
