Sven Mislintat, former Arsenal head of recruitment, has agreed to join struggling Bundesliga side Stuttgart as their Sporting Director. Under this title, Mislintat will be in charge of player recruitment, which could see him making significant changes to the squad seeing that Stuttgart is on the brink of relegation to 2. Bundesliga.
Mislintat appears, though, to have received the kind of title and ability to influence strategy that he was rumored to have wanted at Arsenal following Ivan Gazidis’ departure last autumn. He’ll be able to work back in Germany and be closer to his family, for a historical club who’s faced a difficult run of play ever since capturing the league title in 2007, who doesn’t and probably won’t going forward for the foreseeable future have a sizeable budget to operate within. That last part is no doubt probably a huge reason why Stuttgart turned to Mislintat.
Arsenal, meanwhile, has yet to replace Sven, and there hasn’t been any notable rumors of late that they’re either determined to do so or have the faintest idea how they want their structure to be set up.
Good times.
