Stateside Gooners rejoice! The rumored Arsenal preseason trip to the US appears to be A Thing, and there are details about where the team will be playing. According to connected Arsenal fan / Twitter account @DarrenArsenal1, the Gunners will play matches in Los Angeles, Washington, North Carolina, and Colorado.
The Gunners will reportedly face Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, AC Milan, and the Colorado Rapids, although which team they will be facing where isn’t clear. Presumably they will play the Stan Kroenke-owned Colorado Rapids in Colorado.
It’s not clear whether Washington means D.C. or state. DarrenArsenal said he meant D.C., but Arseblog reports the club is going to Washington state, so we will have to wait for clarification / confirmation on that one.
Pure speculation here, but I’d guess that the three matches against European competition will be part of the 2019 International Champions Cup, the worldwide preseason tournament in which Arsenal have participated the past two years. If that is the case, I’d wager Washington means D.C. because the ICC has played matches there the past two summers and has not played in Washington state since 2015.
When Arsenal last visited the United States, they played exclusively in California, defeating the MLS All-Stars 2-1 and Liga MX’s Deportivo Guadalajara 3-1.
As always, we will keep you updated as we learn more about the preseason tour. The International Champions Cup expects to make an official announcement of venues and dates in late March.
