Top Ten Goals of the Decade. Top Ten Movies of the Decade. Best Songs of the Decade. Worst Decisions of the Decade. If you’ve spent any time on the internet in the last month, you’ve been inundated with listicles recapping the highlights and lowlights of the last ten years. It’s as if someone decided “buzzfeed, but make it everything.” Apparently, we have a primal need to arbitrarily rank things and to tell other people why their arbitrary rankings are stupid.
I’m more than over it. At first, I was hopeful that a list might introduce me to a new show/author/movie/anything that I missed and would enjoy. Nope, didn’t find any of that. Then I thought, “maybe one of these will have an insightful observation, something that makes me think about something in a new way.” Nuh-uh, it’s the internet. Put out good #content long enough, a you get bought up and gutted by a venture capital firm. RIP Deadspin.
Writer: “Of the decade posts are dumb and repetitive*”
Also writer: “Here is my ‘of the decade’ post.”
*except for Chrisman’s Best Kits of the Decade post
But instead of cobbling together a list and telling you why my ranking is The Best Ranking and why my #1 thing is The Best Thing, I’m going to ask you a question. I’d like for you to think back over your Arsenal fandom in the last ten years. What is the first happy memory that comes to mind?
