The Shirt Fuse: Best kits of the decade

New, comments

A completely non-subjective ranking

A decade of Arsenal kits have cycled their way through the Emirates and opposing grounds. By my count, Arsenal have worn at least 30 different kit combinations. Nine different home kits (I started my decade based on 2010/2011 season fwiw), ten away kits, six third kits (plus 3 extra combinations), along with the dreaded all red kit to comply for Carabao Cup and UEFA uniform policy.

Let me state this now, if I never have to see Arsenal play a match in all red again, I will be perfectly happy. We are not Liverpool and we shall reserve all red for them and only them. My choices below are completely based on my personal taste and being a kit connoisseur, please drop a line in the comments with your favorites or least favorites.

10.) 2019/20 Adidas home kit

What I like: the return to #threestripelife after an underwhelming deal with Puma. Clean lines, subtle touches, instantly recognizable.

9.) 2017/18 Puma home kit

What I like: best Puma home kit in their tenure, the collar is nicely added without being overbearing, white socks fade to red is a great touch.

8.) 2014/15 Puma 3rd kit

What I like: Return of a 3rd kit, I enjoy being adventurous with a 3rd kit and this one is different enough from the home and away kits while securing a vital away win at Old Trafford in it doesn’t hurt.

7.) 2012/13 Nike away kit

What I like: DIFFERENT! HOOPS! I loved these kits, purple and black hoops? Sign me up. Probably should’ve been a 3rd kit, but I loved them nonetheless.

6.) 2011/12 Nike home kit

What I like: 125th anniversary kit, simple, clean and one year of the wreath. Add in a touch of Thierry Henry and you’ve got yourself a classic kit!

5. 2016/17 Puma 3rd kit (game specific vs Ludogorets in Champions League)

What I like: neon shorts. This goal.

4.) 2014/15 Puma away kit

What I like: She wore yellow to back to back FA Cup wins

Aston Villa v Arsenal - FA Cup Final

3. 2019/20 Adidas away kit

What I like: Bruised banana redux? This shirt surely moves up to #1 if we win any silverware at all this season

2.) 2010/11 Nike home kit

What I like: Quintessential Arsenal home shirt, great cuffs (especially on long sleeve version). The decade started off with this man below and I believed all things were possible with him slicing through opposing midfields wearing this shirt.

1.) 2013/14 Nike away kit

What I like: This shade of blue with yellow. In 2013 it had been over 5 years since we had a yellow/blue combination and the previous yellow/maroon was quite forgettable. This shirt with collar and striped sock combo was gorgeous from head to toe.

PS: I miss you Aaron, come home soon and reclaim your throne that is the Emirates Stadium.
