Arsenal to face Leeds United in this year’s FA Cup opener

The calendar just turned to December, which means it’s FA Cup third round draw time again. This year, the hands reaching into the vase pulled Arsenal’s ping pong ball out right before they grabbed the one marked Leeds United, which means the Yorkshire side will be coming to London for a weekend away.

Leeds are currently joint top of the Championship, level on points with West Brom (at least right now - West Brom are currently playing Preston North End, which may render that sentence moot), second in the Championship after West Brom beat PNE today 1-0, riding a five game winning streak (eight unbeaten), and buoyed by the news that they’re about to be owned by a bottomless pit of money. So yeah, things are looking up for them.

Anyway, the game will be, as the third round always is, sometime over the first weekend in January. I would bet it will be played on Sunday the 5th, as Arsenal play on New Year’s Day and then Saturday the 11th, but with TV companies running the show, that’s just a guess.
