Here we are again, back to Premier League action. Hopefully Arsenal’s non-internationals are well rested and ready to absolutely not pick up where they left off, but to use where they left off as fuel to kickstart what so far has been a dull slog of a campaign that sees Arsenal eight points out of the fourth place spot that was their minimum target this year.
Granted, it’s early, but it’s late enough in “it’s early” that we can’t use “it’s early” as an excuse all that much longer. Arsenal have to start moving up the table, have to start producing performances that can generate points, sooner rather than later, or this season will Groundhog Day itself again next season, unless the Arsenal powers that be stick to their word and put Emery to the sword if Arsenal don’t get where they want to be.
That starts today, against Southampton. A game Arsenal should win will be a good test of whether Arsenal can win these games again, or whether they’ll continue to struggle and continue to deliver the same brand of uninteresting football they’ve produced for most of this season and the last part of last. Please, Arsenal, do better.
