Happy Friday! No big philosophical or experiential questions this week, it strikes me we haven’t talked about music in a while, so let’s talk about music.

Specifically, new music. What new stuff are you listening to these days? I’ve been listening to the new Sturgill Simpson record a ton in the last couple weeks. It’s country, but it’s also very much not. It’s definitely worth a listen.

What else...hmmm. I’ve long been a fan of his work - the Screaming Trees are probably the most underrated/underheard band from the Seattle scene in the 90’s - and the new Mark Lanegan Band record does not disappoint. It’s surprisingly...poppy? For a guy who makes a lot of dark, dark music, this record is a 180 degree shift, and I really, really like it.

The last, sadly posthumous, release from The Muffs is also really good - it’s a lot like their other records, but that is in no way a bad thing.

So that’s what I’m listening to these days. Tell me what is making you happy, musically speaking! Also tell me what you’re going to do with your extra hour Saturday night, because I’m an old person and I’ll just be grateful for the extra hour of sleep.
